Even if you have a dream day job, it’s perfectly fine to want to earn more money or simply try something new. In fact, in the United States alone, 39% of working people admit having a side hustle, and 44% believe they will always need one.

Remote side hustles give an opportunity to earn money on the side while keeping your main job intact. And who knows what happens next? Maybe a side hustle becomes a stable source of income, allowing you to travel and explore the world as a digital nomad. In this article, we will look at examples of side hustles that may be related to current professions, those that require additional skills and those that don't require any new skills at all.

Let’s explore the best remote side hustles in 2025!

Resume writer

Average pay: $18 per hour.

Best suited for: HR specialists, copywriters, and people with a keen eye for detail who have the ability to translate complex experiences into concise, impactful statements.

Resume writers create polished resumes, cover letters, and LinkedIn profiles to help candidates stand out in a pretty competitive job market. Statistics show that only 25% of candidates manage to get past the employer's hiring software, and only 10 applicants out of 250 receive an invitation to a face-to-face or a phone screen job interview. So, technically, a candidate is always judged based on their resume first and personality later, which makes resume writing a highly in-demand service.

Bishnu lists some common mistakes people make when writing their resumes, including focusing too much on duties and not enough on achievements, filling their resumes with irrelevant information, using the same generic resume for all job applications, and not paying enough attention to formatting and design. A resume writer’s work is to help by crafting a document that is concise, tailored, and optimized for both recruiters and ATS. Tailoring each resume to the specific job posting increases the chances of passing the ATS and catching a recruiter’s attention. Bishnu also claims that with the right skills, marketing, and network, resume writing can absolutely become a full-time career. Many professionals transition into full-time resume writing by building a strong client base and expanding their services over time. Plus, it costs nothing to start: you can find your first clients by simply offering a gig on Fiverr or any alternative freelance platform

The best part of this job is hearing from clients who land their dream jobs! One of my favorite success stories was a client transitioning from Banking to the Credit Analyst with a 90% salary hike. They struggled with positioning their skills & experience, but after reworking their resume and LinkedIn profile, they secured multiple interviews and landed a role at a top consulting firm. Moments like that make this work incredibly fulfilling!

Social media manager

Average pay: $31 per hour.

Best suited for: creatives with strong communication skills.

If you’re up to date with the latest trends and know your way around social media platforms, then managing social media can be a great remote side hustle for you. With 5.24 billion social media users worldwide, it’s no surprise the SMM profession is booming and businesses are hiring people to build their online presence. It’s a flexible and creative role, but don’t kid yourself into thinking it’s an easy and stress-free one. A social media manager is responsible for creating and scheduling posts, engaging with followers, analyzing performance metrics, and more. It’s not just about posting trendy or fun pictures; the main goal is to help a business grow and engage with their audience. This can take a lot of time and effort.

Online survey taker

Average pay: $31 per hour.

Best suited for: stay-at-home parents, college students, or anyone with a few minutes to spare.

Participating in online surveys is one of the easiest and most accessible side hustles out there. If you have strong opinions on certain topics, why not turn them into cash? The concept is very straightforward: you share your opinion and get paid in return. On average, surveys pay somewhere from $0.25 to $5.00 for completion and take from 5-10 to 30-60 minutes to take depending on the complexity. The pay for longer surveys is not always proportional to the time invested, so it's important to carefully evaluate a survey before participating. Another important factor to consider is the reliability of the survey platform. Many people turn to Reddit and other online forums to check whether a particular platform is legitimate or not. Stick to well-known and trusted platforms like Swagbucks, SurveyJunkie, and InboxDollars to avoid scams and earn money from home in a safe and flexible way.

Online language tutor

Average pay: $19 per hour.

Best suited for: college students, working or retired teachers, and native English speakers with a passion for teaching.

The beauty of being an online language tutor is that you can connect with students from all over the world remotely from the comfort of your own home. You can give lessons whenever it suits you and take on as many students as your schedule allows. Plus, this is usually a long-term opportunity, as learning another language is a slow process, so teaching just a few people can ensure you have a steady side income for 3-6 months or more. The more specialized your skills are, the higher your pay can be. For example, teaching students to prepare for TOEFL or IELTS is in high demand, so people are willing to pay more for quality instruction that will help them ace these important and sometimes life-changing exams. Tanya charges twice her standard rate for highly specialized lessons such as GRE/GMAT preparation or professional English, like medical English for NCLEX/USMLE candidates.

It's an easy way to start a side hustle job like this: you can contact your friends or use popular language learning platforms like iTalki, Preply, or VIPkid to find your first student. Tanya recommends starting with the New English File series, as it's one of the easier books to teach, and gaining an ESL qualification such as a CELTA or TEFL certificate. However, she warns that it can be a challenging side hustle unless you set firm boundaries. Tanya herself experienced this, working 80-hour weeks at one point, which took a toll on her health and burned her out completely. She strongly advises trying teaching before committing to a formal teaching qualification, as tutoring requires patience and adaptability that not everyone enjoys.

The most rewarding part is seeing my students succeed and knowing that, in some small way, I contributed to their achievements. One particularly memorable case was my neighbour, a young mother who had just left an abusive relationship. She had nothing, so we arranged a barter system—she cooked for me in exchange for English lessons. Two years later, she secured a full scholarship to one of the top universities in the US. Today, she’s a nurse anaesthetist, married to a wonderful man, and living a completely different life. We still keep in touch, and it’s incredible to see how far she’s come.

Video editor

Average pay: $32 per hour.

Best suited for: creatives with basic knowledge of video editing software like Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro (or willingness to learn).

A video editor transforms raw video footage into polished content ready for publication. This includes cutting and arranging clips, adding special effects and sound, and color correction. The demand for editing short videos, such as YouTube shorts, TikToks, and Instagram Reels, is particularly high as social media continues to grow. It can be a challenging side hustle for beginners, but once you establish yourself in the market, it can become a very profitable remote venture. Many influencers and high-profile brands outsource video editing to freelancers, so the more experience you gain, the higher your earnings can be.

Redbubble seller

Average pay: 20% of each purchase.

Best suited for: artists, designers, and creatives with basic knowledge of graphic design programs like Adobe Photoshop.

Redbubble is an online store where artists can sell their work on a range of products, from T-shirts to phone cases to home pillows and more. The process is easy: artists upload their designs, customize sizes for each product they want to sell, and earn a commission when someone buys. All products are manufactured and shipped by Redbubble, artists don't need to worry about sourcing materials or logistics, so it’s a great way to earn passive income. You don’t even need to be a pro artist to start. There are many simple designs for sale – famous quotes or simple graphics. All you need is basic Photoshop skills, an eye for current trends, and imagination. But the income can be slow and irregular as it depends on how well your product does in the marketplace. The best place to start is to create content related to your fandom since the Redbubble search engine uses hashtags to show relevant items. People are more likely to search for specific items than browse the whole store, so creating content that matches their interests will help you reach a bigger audience.

I'm a big fan of Harry Potter, so that was what I searched for. You can purchase stickers, phone cases, and other merchandise featuring Harry Potter characters. As you can see, there are many simple but popular designs. Source: Redbubble

Bookkeeper

Average pay: $24 per hour.

Best suited for: bookkeepers looking to earn money on the side and work remotely.

Bookkeepers are an essential part of any business. They keep records, monitor transactions, and ensure tax compliance. So it’s not for just anyone to do; you need a specific skill set and education to start a side hustle like this. Many small businesses and freelance professionals need financial help but can’t afford to hire a full-time bookkeeper, so working with them remotely can be a great way for you to stay in your field and earn extra income on the side. Plus, there is always a need to track finances in any business, big or small, so the income can be stable and predictable. You can offer your services on freelance platforms or use specialized websites like Belay to find your first remote client.

Copywriter

Average pay: $40 per hour.

Best suited for: creative thinkers, obsessed with words and grammar.

A copywriter is a professional who creates written content that helps businesses achieve their marketing goals. They may write for a variety of formats, including product descriptions, landing page text, case studies, email newsletters, blog posts, scripts, and social media posts. There is an opinion that copywriting is a field with a relatively low entry barrier. You can start this side hustle without any formal education; however, it is better to first learn about text formats, copywriting techniques, marketing, and editing skills. Copywriting is more than just stringing together some catchy sentences. A good writer understands the goal of their writing and how to capture readers' attention and guide them towards a specific action (buying a product, subscribing to a newsletter, following a blog, etc.).

That's why, despite the many discussions about AI replacing copywriters, designers, and other creative professionals, there is still a great demand for true experts who know how to work with a brand's unique voice and infuse personality into each piece of content. As a freelance copywriter myself, I can definitely say that there is always more content to produce, and AI can be a helpful tool in generating it. However, it is not a replacement for human creativity.

Recruiter

Average pay: $27 per hour.

Best suited for: people with experience in HR, sales, and customer service.

A recruiter is a dream job for those who love to help people find their dream job and businesses find the best professionals. They source, interview, and evaluate candidates for open positions. And the best part of this side hustle is that it can be done remotely, and people are always looking for work. With technology advancing so fast and new industries and jobs emerging, the recruitment industry is booming. Some of the most sought-after sectors are technology, sales, digital marketing, healthcare, engineering, construction, finance, and accounting. If you have expertise in one of them, as well as strong organizational skills and an eye for talent, then being a remote recruiter could provide you with a great opportunity for additional income. Outsourcing recruitment processes to freelance experts reduces recruitment expenses by 34%, so there’s always room for skilled professionals to join the ride. The best places to start this remote side hustle, of course, are LinkedIn and Rectuiter.com – a platform for professional recruiters.

Virtual assistant

Average pay: $25 per hour.

Best suited for: organized multitaskers and problem solvers with a keen eye for detail.

Today being an assistant doesn’t mean working in an office and bringing someone a latte. You can be a virtual assistant and work from home. Virtual assistants help businesses and individuals with correspondence, scheduling meetings, research, and other admin tasks. Essentially, a virtual assistant is a Swiss Army man, a jack of all trades and a multitasker, able to do many things at once. But virtual assistants are not just taskmasters. 60% of them have a college degree and are experts in areas like marketing, social media management, customer service, and project management. So the more skills you have, the more you can earn. For example, Deborah primarily handles email correspondence, calendar management, research, strategic planning, and corporate communication. Business owners and C-suite executives are at the top of her list of clients. The demand for virtual assistants is high as more and more businesses, including startups and multinational companies, are hiring them to streamline their processes. By 2030, the virtual assistant market is expected to exceed $8.6 billion, so starting a side hustle in this area now could be very beneficial in the long run. There are a number of specialized groups and websites where you can start your remote journey; here are some of them: Time Etc, VANA, FancyHands, Boldly.

I would recommend generalizing your skills and not specializing in a single area of personal assistance (like travel arrangements, social media management, etc.), and here is my ogi: People don’t want to hire 50 personal assistants who are doing 50 different things. They would rather hire the one, who can do those at least 10 different things, and pay that one much more than they would pay you if you were doing one thing. I draw the line at social media management though, except the person is just looking at maintaining social media presence.
My general advice to anyone considering becoming a virtual assistant would be:
- Keep things simple - both in your life and in the client’s life. Learn how to communicate complex terms simply;
- Learn to understand and move easily between formal, semi formal and informal communication;
- In order to establish a good working relationship with your client, go the extra mile in your dedication to your client and you will establish a great working relationship. It is that relationship that keeps you in a job and guarantees you raises.
- When starting out, prioritise experience over money. With more experience, you will get more money.

Graphic designer

Average pay: $27 per hour.
Best suited for: creatives with basic knowledge of design software like Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, or Canva (or willingness to learn).

Graphic designers create visual content to communicate concepts and ideas. They develop logos, websites, marketing materials, social media graphics, and more using software like Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. While you don’t need a specific degree to work as a graphic designer remotely, you need to have a good understanding of these software to turn ideas into visual solutions. This side hustle is not for beginners, but the good thing is there are many online courses like Alison Online and thousands of videos on YouTube that explain everything from basic principles to complex brand identity design. You can check this EnvatoTuts+ post to see how graphic designers work and see if you might be interested in learning more about it.

The most important thing a graphic designer should do in order to find remote jobs is to build a portfolio. You can do this by taking small freelance projects or participating in graphic design competitions on websites like 99designs. This way you’ll learn faster and not feel overwhelmed by the pressure of delivering the best result to a client when you’re just starting out. The remote nature of this side hustle allows you to do it part-time and balance it with your full-time job in a flexible manner, giving you creative freedom and extra income.

Whether you're looking to boost your income, try something new, or simply fill some late-night hours with productive activity, there are side hustles out there for everyone. Some may require specific skills, but for others, all you need is some extra time and the desire to get started. Ready to hustle? Don't wait any longer to see where this could take you!
